Overtime and Gross Wage Questions

1)      In a building company all employees work a basic week of 35 hours. Note overtime worked from Monday to Friday is paid for at time-and-a-quarter. Overtime worked on Saturday is paid for at time-and-a-half, whereas on Sunday it is paid for at double-time. If the basic rate is $12.75 per hour, find the gross wage of a man who worked 13 hours overtime from Monday to Friday, 3 hours overtime on Saturday and 6 hours overtime on Sunday.

 

2)      In a business all employees work a basic week of 42 hours. Any overtime worked during weekdays is paid for at time-and-a-half. Overtime worked on Saturday is paid for at double time, whereas on Sunday it is paid for at triple-time. If the basic rate is $7.38 per hour, determine the gross wage of a man who worked 16 hours overtime from Monday to Friday, 4 hours overtime on Saturday and 3 hours overtime on Sunday.

 

3)      In a hotel all employees work a basic week of 30 hours. Any overtime worked during weekdays is paid for at time-and-a-quarter. Overtime worked at Saturday is paid for at time-and-a-half, whereas on Sunday it is paid for at double-time. If the basic rate is $15.50 per hour and a man worked 16 hours overtime during weekdays, 5 hours overtime on Saturday and 4 hours overtime on Sunday;

Calculate

a)      his basic wage

b)      his overtime wage

c)      his gross wage for the week

 

4)      At a clothing business the basic week is 45 hours. During a certain week Mr. Carl earned a gross wage of $480 but $140 was overtime.

a)       Determine Mr. Carl’s basic rate of payment

b)      If overtime was paid for at double time, calculate how many hours Mr. Carl worked overtime

 

5)      A woman is paid $10.25 per hour for a 50 hour week and she is paid at a time-and-a-half for overtime. Determine how many hours of overtime she worked when her wage for a certain week was $650.
