God My Creator

The earth was formless and as empty as space

God began to create the heavens and the earth,

That all lay in hands of darkness’ embrace

God said, “Let there be light’ and a candle lit

He called his candle, the day

And the darkness the pinch of a flame to extinguish

He called his pinch, the night

It was the first day

God said, “Let there be a vault” and a sea of blue stained above

He called the blue stain, heaven

It was the second day

God said, “Let all waters come together into one and dry land appear”

A mass of leaves, blue flowers and carpets sat on the universe

He called the carpet, earth

He called the mass of leaves and flowers, seas

God said, “Let the earth produce grass, plants and trees”

And the earth bore children of green

It was the third day

God said, “Let there be light in the vault of heaven”

God made the sun his candle, the moon his lamp and the stars

His billion fireflies around the lamp

It was the fourth day

God said, “Let the waters produce fishes and the vault of heaven’s birds”

And there were fishes like sequins in the ocean

And there were birds like sailing ships swimming the sky

It was the fifth day

God said, “Let there be all kinds of animals on the earth”

And so there were animals as numerous as the sands on shores

And as various as the weather

God said, “Let men be in our own image, in the likeness of ourselves,

And let them be masters of the fishes of the sea, the birds of heaven,

All animals and all the earth”

And so man was made and moulded by the hands of God

As alike as two peas

“Go forth and multiply”, He said

To be as plentiful as the stars above

They were the masters conquering the slaves of the

Sea, sky and land

God said, “I give you all the plants growing on the earth

And all trees that bear fruit. That will be your food”

And so plants aged like years gone by

Trees bore fruits as needful as sunlight

God saw that all was very good

It was the sixth day

He rested like a still cloud in the sky

He blessed the day and made it holy

It was the seventh day
