Do you feel constantly fatigued throughout your work day?
Do you hit the 2:00pm wall?
Do you feel overwhelmed trying to balance the stress of work and home life?

Well you are not alone.

As our modern world is changing, so too is our everyday work life. Research has shown that 70% of adults spend their waking hours engaged in sedentary behavior. Sitting for more than 6 hours per day increases the risk of heart disease, obesity, diabetes and hypertension which can ultimately lead to cancer.

What can you do??

Time to get moving. The National Insurance Corporation statistic indicates a 20% increase in non-communicable diseases.  This affects productivity in the work place and increases health cost. While the organization is aware that it cannot unilaterally solve this problem, it believes it has a significant role to play. Consequently, the NIC launched the National Sneaker Day campaign last year to promote healthy living through increased physical activity in the workplace.

How does it work?

•       On Sneaker Day, Wednesday June 28th, 2017 workers are encouraged to wear their sneakers with their usual corporate attire.
•       The activity targets workers who are less likely to be physically active.
•       The aim of this activity is to encourage workers to incorporate more physical activity into their day.
•       Participants are encouraged to take selfies and post on various Social Media platforms with the (hashtag) #758sneakerday2017.
•       Workers are advised to increase physical activity by parking further away than usual.
•       Use the washroom farther away from their desk.
•       Taking a walk in at lunchtime.
•       Integrating small amounts of physical activity into a workday really adds up.

In order to increase participation, Employers are encouraged to design activities and offer relatively inexpensive prizes to winners. Some of the activities designed by the NIC included contest for the brightest and biggest sneakers, dirtiest sneakers and tracking most active employee for the day. We encourage employers use this as a blueprint to ensure that your organization is well represented in this national initiative.
