Dipodic Verse
The “Two-footed”
One that’s not dead
Surviving from old English poetry
A persistent survivor I see
It is a light-hearted rocking meter
As light-hearted as birds flying over
In two half-lines, each with two stresses
Falling among scattered light syllables
As scattered as the light, falling leaves
As light as air these weightless syllables
Like the nursery rhymes
Of the ancient times
