Introduction To Organic Chemistry
Organic chemistry is the subdivision of chemistry that examines the compounds of Carbon excluding the carbonates, hydrogen carbonates, carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide.
Note organic chemistry is the examination of chemical compounds which comes from plant life and animals and contain one or more carbon atoms. Many organic compounds are now made in laboratories. There are so many because organic compounds are able to react with each other to form extended chains or diverse types of compounds.
Carbon is a flexible element. It has 4 valence electrons and can form a maximum of 4 covalent bonds. Carbon can shape a wide selection of compounds and bonds. Note because of this carbon is a widespread element that can be found in living and non-living matter. So since organic chemistry is so wide, it is structured into groups. The groups are called the homologous series.
The capacity of Carbon to form long chains with other Carbon atoms is called catenation where by chains can be branched and unbranched.
