Note Taking Strategies and Skills
If the teacher writes something on the chalkboard or go over a thought then it is usually an important point and you should write it down.
Try to use a notebook to organize your notes and any handouts.
Time your notes. Add headings and subheadings when you move onto a new area.
Try to take a seat towards the front and or center of the class where you’ll be less diverted and can hear the teacher properly.
An audio recorder can help while taking notes. After the class is over you can replay the lesson and put in any parts that you missed in your notes.
Someone else’s notes can help sometimes but you may not understand everything that they write down and you’ll learn the greatest way by taking your own notes.
Reading assignments or homework questions before class helps you take notes, when you know what the teacher is talking about beforehand.
Write down any terms or concepts along with the definition that the teacher may give you.
If you fail to notice what the teacher said asks to repeat it or go to the teacher after class and ask for explanation or ask a friend.
Match class notes with a classmate to make sure you didn’t fail to see any essential points.
