My Land
My land is
A beautiful lady
Fondled by the hands of
The great sea
Whilst having a sunbath
My land has
Lovely banana trees
Waving as they welcome
You to come
To taste the green-fig and
The salt-fish in a dish
My land gives
Music like calypso
Reggae and the others
As joyful
As a fly you will be
With carnival around
In the air
My land smells
Like La Rose and like La
Maguerite festivals
And tastes
Like breadfruit, dasheen, yams
Guava and tamarind
That’s my land
A lady with all these
My land feels
The rapes and the murders
From all the criminals
Feeling the
Pain like an arrow through
Her strong cardiac walls
As killing
As a plague in her life
This lady
