The Treachery
I was a child playing during twilight
In a grassy area
My brother
Was close by
In the wink of an eye,
A glowing yellow
And to my ignorant eye
Stunning
And dazzling
Toy made its presence visible between
The blooming grass
And sliding down
Began to undulate across the lawn
To the other side
Like a design of flaxen light
Revealing a cry of delight
I reached for it by the tail
An eccentric awareness
Of coldness
Embraces my whole arm’s trail
Although the toy to the eye seemed as warm as a loving heart
It looked so bright
And star like
I refused to drop it,
Looked at it
With interest,
As its head hung from my hand
My brother began
To bawl
It was me he called
The creature
Now hissed
Lifted venomous crown
Its head was no longer down
Its eyes were like a fortress of fire
Terrorizing my mind
I forsook my hostage,
It gave another
Turbulent hiss
Within a second
It stung
Me in the leg
Whilst I stared
At its devilish eyes so red
