The Night Police
The stars in the sky are like policemen
Deep in the night they watch you now and then
On the lonely streets whilst their prayers they say
For God’s leadership to see what they may
When morning comes, like bats they go to rest
Up again at dusk on criminals’ quest
They are there to protect you in the dew
Watchful as owls as they take a world view
The sky their home no protection they give
Giving up their lives making sure you live
Above land and sea they are sentinels
Catch prisoners and put them in their cells
Every night some call on them to assist
Against those who break the law and resist
All those guilty offenders they will rough
To hold them captive before they handcuff
