Guidelines For Good Management & Staff Relations

Good management worker relationship is significant for effectiveness, output and the maintenance of staff.

Communication

Managers should have effective communication skills whereby they not only give directives but support feedback or response from workers. Workers should get the chance to give their concerns and opinion during meetings. Some managers have an open door policy making them available to all employees.

Compassionate and sympathetic

Managers should be considerate like showing kindheartedness when coping with workers day after day.  Workers should not be treated like robots. Managers should try to recognize each worker and their diverse concerns. Workers may have problems with sicknesses, home issues, monetary and so on, that might hinder their effectiveness at work.

Fairness or equality

It is to the managers’ advantage to treat all workers equally without showing preference. If workers recognize that they are not being equally treated or that there is discrimination then this may cause trouble at the work place. You may get conflict among workers also between management and subordinates.

Motivation and inspiration

A manager has to look at several ways to encourage workers to give their best performance at work. Since money is not the only motivating factor; other means of motivation include acknowledgment for good work and inspiring workers to do even better. Good performing employees can be encouraged by promotion and other incentives. They can be recognized as employee of the month with an award. Managers can also motivate by permitting employees to be original and give their ideas to production.
